I recently came back in contact with an old friend from elementary school, Phil Tucker, who I had lost touch with since grade eight! Phil and I were the artistic kids in our class and we’d spent a lot of our time back then sketching and drawing comics. So I was not entirely surprised that Phil had gotten into music and formed a band with three other talented friends. The band is The Floods and they play their own down tempo, alternative rock. They have their own unique sound and Phil does some really cool work on his guitar with a bow.
This past week, Phil asked me to come out to hear them play and to shoot some photos as they performed for the first time in front of a live public audience. It was great to hook up with an old friend and I can’t wait to see what they have coming next!
Be sure to check out their MySpace page.

Earlier this year I was contacted by a photo researcher from Delius Producing in Berlin, Germany about licensing some of my images from Shigatse, Tibet for a project. The project was to be a photo book about China, which I thought was especially timely given the attention China has been receiving this year. So I was pleasantly surprised this afternoon when I received a parcel shipped to me from Germany. When I opened the package I realized that it was my copy of “China: A Visual Adventure”, the photo book featuring some of my photos. The book is stunning and filled with great photos from many talented photographers. I still cannot believe that it is over 500 pages thick! The book will be sold at major book stores (Amazon.ca - China: A Visual Adventure (2008)).

I had the honour of photographing Patty & Alex’s wedding on August 8th, 2008 or 8-8-8 (an auspicious calendar number combination in Chinese). I first met Patty and Alex while photographing Patty’s employer’s Christmas party last year. Shortly after the Christmas party, they would take a vacation together to Thailand where Alex would surprise Patty by popping the question! When they returned, I was excited to hear that they wanted me to shoot their wedding. The easy going couple tied the knot with a small intimate ceremony at City Hall, followed by some creative portraits with us around Osgoode Hall and University Avenue at rush hour. Then it was off to the Old Mill to receive their guests at a beautifully intimate banquet for sixty close friends and family.
(More photos coming soon!)
